PESO managers lauded during congress

Cebu City, Philippines. Hands were put together for the more than a hundred Public Employment Service Office (PESO) managers coming together for the annual Regional PESO Managers (REPESOM) Congress recently held in Negros Oriental.

The delegates, who came from various provinces all over Central Visayas, celebrated the milestones that each PESO office achieved insofar as providing services to the workers and jobseekers is concerned.

Lead speaker, DOLE-7 Regional Director, Atty. Johnson G. Cañete lauded the exemplary efforts exerted by the PESO Managers as they tirelessly work with the DOLE in bringing to their provinces, cities, municipalities and even to the far-flung barangays the programs and services of the Department.

Giving value to what the Department stands for, Atty. Cañete presented the DOLE’s thrusts for 2019, which he hoped would help guide the delegates in gaining clearer direction and understanding of the Agency’s priorities. “As DOLE’s partners, it is important that PESO managers understand the DOLE’s commitments so that they would be able to align all their activities and projects to what the Department considers top priorities,” he said.

Giving a little twist to the annual event, the DOLE-7 Head incorporated in his talk Stress Management and Teambuilding activities hoping that the same would be able to help mitigate the ill-effects of stress that PESO Managers have experienced in their work.

DOLE-Negros Oriental Field Office Head, Marites Mercado, in her welcome message, commended the PESO Managers for developing a strong and close relationship among themselves. She also highlighted their irrefutable contributions to the success of various programs such as employment facilitation, livelihood and other interventions that benefit not only the workers but also the employers.

Guided by the theme “PESO Journey through the years”, the three-day activity taking place on 23-25 January in the municipality of Dauin featured a number of capacity building presentations; Bureau of Local Employment (BLE) updates; Eucharistic Celebration; REPESOM Officer and Board of Directors’ (BOD) Meeting; and distribution of plaques for Service Awards of some PESO Managers who have been in the service for twenty (20) years and more.

Also highlighted were discussions on the previous and current implementation of the Career Guidance Advocacy Program, Employment Promotion and Facilitation, Labor Market Information, Philjobnet, National Skills Registration Program (NSRP), and PESO Creation.

REPESOM-7 is headed by its President Vila C. Yorong along with its officers and members.
