DOLE-7 gears up for Labor Day celeb

Cebu City, Philippines. Preparations made by the DOLE Regional Office No. 7 (DOLE-7) are underway for the 117th Labor Day Celebration on May 1.

DOLE-7 Regional Director Salome O. Siaton, in a statement, said that a series of meetings among the Department’s social partners had been conducted to ensure success of this year’s celebration with the theme, “Pagpupugay sa Mangngagawang Pilipino.”

All Tripartite Industrial Peace Councils (TIPCs) and Industry Tripartite Councils (ITCs) have been tapped especially the ITC in Construction that’s hosting this year’s celebration in the region.

“The celebration on May 1 will be a private-led activity. And we are very much happy for the positive response and engagement of ITC-Construction as host. Our thanks also go out to the rest of the ITCs and TIPCs and other social partners for heeding our call every time we needed their presence in the scheduled meetings,” said Director Siaton, who underscored the beauty of convergence and social dialogue as a mechanism of achieving the objectives of the celebration.

The activity will be kicked-off by a Caravan and Solidary Run at 5:00 AM involving Lapulapu City-TIPC and Mandaue City-TIPC, respectively. The rest of the participating ITCs and TIPCs will all convene at the covered Car Park of SM City Cebu at 6:00 AM for the Zumba sa Mayo. SM City Cebu would be housing all calendared activities for the celebration.

“That covered Car Park will be packed with zumba-attired contingents, who are expected to get ready to sweat and dance their heart out for one hour. With this, we are thanking in advance the National Labor Relations Commission – NLRC-7TH Division and NLRC-RAB 7 – who will be leading Zumba sa Mayo,” added the DOLE-7 Head.

Following  Zumba sa Mayo would be Arroz Caldo Para sa Mga Mangngagawa, a sharing of specially-made hot porridge among all contingents, while preparing for the next part which is the Eucharistic Celebration happening at 8:00 AM at SM Cinema 8.

The Regional Director shared that right after the Holy Mass at 9:00 AM, everyone will be joining the Commemorative Program also happening at SM Cinema 8, where an array of exciting entertainment numbers and numerous prizes await the participants.

Taking place at 10:00 AM would be the opening ceremony of the Trabaho, Negosyo, at Kabuhayan (TNK) Job and Business Fairs at the SM Trade Hall in close partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI-7), that will be setting up its Negosyo Center as well as the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB-7) that will also be making its Kasambahay Desk available.

Also providing services to the public from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM will be TESDA, BIR, PRC, HDMF/PAG-IBIG, PPC, Phil health, SSS, PSA, BI, NBI, POEA, OWWA, NRCO and, DOLE under the One-Stop-Shop Services component of the TNK located at the Government Service Express Center at the Second Floor of the mall.

TIPCs/ITCs actively taking part of the celebration included the following, namely: ITC in Education; ITC in Construction; ITC in Business Process Management/ICT; ITC in Bus Transport; ITC in Hotels, Restaurants and Tourism; ITC in Maritime; ITC in Manufacturing; ITC in Hospitals; ITC I Private Employment Agencies; ITC in Wholesale and Retail; Talisay City TIPC; Cebu City TIPC; Mandaue City TIPC; Lapulapu City TIPC; District Tripartite Council (Sugar); and ITC in Shipbuilding and Ship Repair.

Also joining are all member-agencies of the DOLE-Regional Coordinating Committee (DOLE-RCC) - NLRC-7th Division; NLRC-RAB; POEA; OWWA; PRC; NRCO;NCMB; RTWPB; REPESOM; PEZA; ECC; and OSHC as well as the rest of the DOLE’s social partners involving Cebu Contractors’ Association (CCA); OSHNET-Central Visayas; Philippine Association of Detective and Protective Agency Operators, Inc. (PADPAO); Association of Private Security Agency Operators of the Philippines (APSAO); and Philippine Association of Legitimate Service Contractors (PALSCON-Cebu); among others.

Director Siaton noted of the newly-created ITC, which is the ITC-Security Services, whose Board of Trustees (BOTs) will be taking their oath on May 1 as well.

“We are inviting workers, laborers, toilers, employees and all other working men and women especially jobseekers and fresh graduates to join us on the 117th Labor Day Celebration on May 1 at SM City Cebu. Please do take advantage especially the Trabaho, Negosyo, at Kabuhayan (TNK) Job and Business Fairs as well the One-Stop-Shop Services we will be providing to our clients on that day,” she said.

Also simultaneously taking place on May 1 will be three (3) other Job Fairs - local Job Fair at Cebu Provincial Capitol; local and overseas Job Fair at Mandaue City Sports Complex; and the local and overseas Job Fair at the Main Atrium, Robinson’s Place, Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.

The DOLE Provincial Offices of Bohol and Negros Oriental will also have their separate Labor Day Celebration.
