A loving tribute by the DOLE-RCC family

Cebu City, Philippines. Cheers. Smiles. Chuckles. Hugs. Kisses. Chats. Warmth. All of which decorated the short but sweet and memorable tribute given to DOLE-Undersecretary Ciriaco A. Lagunzad III and Director Evelia M. Durato of POEA last week.

Undersecretary Lagunzad, fondly called USEC. Akong, is one of the current five (5) Undersecretaries of the Department of Labor and Employment. Under his care is the Workers Protection, Human Resource and Internal Auditing Services Cluster.

USEC. Akong, who will be retiring in September this year, has rendered an undeniably committed public service for thirty-seven (37) years. Making sure he visited every Region before his retirement, he said he loves to see new faces and meet again old-time friends, whom he had forged friendship with over the years since he started working for the Department as a contractual worker.

While enjoying lively and care-free chats with the rest of the DOLE-RCC members, USEC. Lagunzad did not forget underscoring good working ethics- an essential ideal, which he carefully carried with him as he navigated his way through a lot of challenges in the various tasks assigned to him such as being a Labor Attache in several countries and now as DOLE-Undersecretary. “Take care of your job and your job will take care of you,” he said.

Same is true with Director Evelia M. Durato of the POEA, who officially retired from work earlier this month. Demonstrating passion for the work she so selflessly extended to the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) for the past thirty-nine (39) years, she hoped that there could still be other measures that the POEA could resort to in order improve more on the kind of service that the Agency is rendering them.

“I thank the DOLE-RCC Family especially Director Siaton for organizing this tribute for us. This really means so much to me,” said Director Durato as she received the Plaque of Appreciation and tokens prepared by the members of the DOLE-RCC 7.

Director Siaton, who sits as Chairperson of the DOLE-RCC 7, lauded all committee members for demonstrating such a responsive and united kind of culture. The DOLE-RCC is composed of the DOLE; National Labor Relations Commission (NLRC-7TH Division); National Labor Relations Commission-Regional Arbitration Branch (NLRC RAB-7); POEA; Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA); National Reintegration Center for OFWs (NRCO); National Conciliation and Mediation Board (NCMB); Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB); Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHC); Employees’ Compensation Commission (ECC); Professional Regulation Commission (PRC); Regional PESO Managers Association (REPESOM); and Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA).

“Paying tribute to a retiring DOLE-RCC member and to a DOLE top official in the person of USEC. Lagunzad at the same time, is a rare opportunity for the members of the Committee. I am deeply grateful to all the Heads of the DOLE’s Attached Agencies for responding positively to the plan of organizing a simple tribute to these officials,” said the DOLE-7 Head.

She said that USEC. Lagunzad and Director Durato truly deserve the kind of recognition given to them not only for the hard work they’ve extended in public service but also for uplifting the image of government by staying prudent and trust-worthy public officials.
