Bello releases 10.3 Million in financial assistance and TUPAD wages in Barili and Aloguinsan, Cebu

Cebu City, Philippines. Labor Secretary Silvestre ‘Bebot’ H. Bello III today distributed the wages of and released the financial assistance to over a thousand workers in Barili and Aloguinsan, Cebu amounting to more than Ten Million Pesos.

Php4,599,080.00 was released to the 158 parents of profiled child laborers in Barili for their individual livelihood starter kits (LSKs). Each one would receive a livelihood assistance package worth Php16,000.00 to Php30,000.00, which will fund for their livelihood projects on General Merchandizing, Cattle and Swine Fattening, Goat Raising and Buy and Sell, among others.

“Dili mo angay nga magpasalamat naku or ni bisan kinsa nga akong kauban sa DOLE tungod kay ang inyong madawat karon nga kwarta kung assistance, dili na gikan kang Presidente Duterte. Dili pud na gikan naku. Wala moy utang na loob nga huna-hunaon tungod kay ang inyong madawa karont, lang gyud na ninyo kay inyo gyud kanang kwarta. It’s your money,” said Bello while speaking before the hundreds of workers including the key leaders of Cebu attending the succeeding awarding of financial assistance held at the Barili Sports Complex and at the Alodome Sports Complex in Aloguinsan.

Earlier in Barili, apart from the parents of the child laborers benefiting the Kabuhayan Program of DOLE, also receiving their salaries and wages today under the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Displaced/Disadvantaged workers (TUPAD) were the town’s 1,103 workers in the informal economy. For their salaries, the DOLE spent Php4,456,120.00.

Secretary Bello also distributed the wages of ten (10) more TUPAD beneficiaries under the Provincial Government of Cebu amounting to Php40,400.00 as well as the OWWA financial assistance to 34 OFWs from Barili and Dumanjug in the amount of Php570,000.00.

From Barili, Secretary Bello proceeded to the town of Aloguinsan, Cebu where he released Php408,040.00 that covered the wages of about 101 TUPAD workers in the municipality. Ten more TUPAD beneficiaries under the Provincial Government of Cebu also received their salary amounting to Php40,400.00. Around 9 OFWs from Aloguinsan and Pinamungajan   received their financial assistance from OWWA amounting to Php150,000.00.

DOLE-7 Regional Director Salome O. Siaton said that the total amount released to Beneficiaries in Barili and Aloguinsan, which also covered the OFW-beneficiaries from Dumanjug and Pinamungajan amounted to Php10,264,040.00. She added that said amount is part of the Php25.8 Million that Secretary Bello is set to release to beneficiaries today and tomorrow, 24 July.

“Tomorrow, the Secretary and the team will go to the town of Balamban to distribute the reference codes for the salaries of TUPAD workers in the said municipality as well as those from the town of Asturias. Our last stop would be in Toledo City, where Sec. Bello shall lead the releasing of TUPAD wages and OWWA financial assistance to beneficiaries,” said Director Siaton.

Welcoming Secretary Bello in the said releases and payouts were Gov. Gwendolyn F. Garcia; Cong. Pablo John F. Garcia; and the local chief executives of the municipalities involved. He was accompanied by DOLE Undersecretary Renato Ebarle; Bureau of Workers with Special Concerns (BWSC) Director, Atty. Ma. Karina Perida-Trayvilla; DOLE-7 Regional Director Salome O. Siaton; DOLE-7 Assistant Regional Director, Atty. Jude Thomas Trayvilla; and OWWA-7 OIC-Regional Director Mae D. Codilla.
