Over 1k graduating students in NegOr given labor education by DOLE

Cebu City, Philippines. Over a thousand graduating students in Negros Oriental recently joined a series of Labor Education for Graduating Students (LEGS) webinars conducted by the Department of Labor and Employment Negros Oriental Field Office (DOLE-NOFO).

Participating students were introduced to labor laws, work ethics, values and other labor-related information as part of the LEGS- a program of DOLE, which will help prepare graduating students in entering the world of work.

The seminar, according to DOLE-7 Regional Director Salome O. Siaton, will help the students become familiar with DOLE's services more specifically on employment facilitation, workers protection and social security coverage for the employees.

Participants are from the Negros Oriental State University (NORSU) particularly from the College of Business Administration (CBA); College of Nursing; Pharmacy and Allied Health Sciences (CNPAHS); College of Industrial Technology (CIT); College of Engineering and Architecture (CEA); College of Arts ad Sciences (CAS); College of Criminal Justice Education (CCJE); and the College of Teacher Education (CTE).

“Graduating students of vocational and baccalaureate courses, who would sooner or later join the labor force, are given orientation on labor and employment matters through the conduct of the LEGS,” said Director Siaton.

She added that the School Management of any educational institution may avail of this program by writing the nearest DOLE Provincial Office to signify its intention to avail of the seminar/webinar.

“Due to the restrictions being brought about by the pandemic, the Department also took advantage of the use of technology by conducting these seminars through an online platform in close coordination with the concerned Public Employment Service Offices or PESOs,” she continued.

The Regional Head thanked PESO-Dumaguete for taking an active part in making the conduct of the webinar series possible successful.

DOLE-NOFO Head, Marites G. Mercado said that the webinar was likewise made possible in partnership with the NORSU’s  Counselling, Assessment, Resources, Enhancement Center (CARE).

The LEGS is just one component of the DOLE’s Labor and Employment Education Services (LEES), apart from the Labor Relations, Human Relations and Productivity (LHP) Seminars and Continuing Labor Education Seminar (CLES).
