Cebu City, Philippines. The local and overseas job fair, held recently, at the gym of the Siquijor State College, Larena, Siquijor produced jobseekers hired on the spot, or HOTS in the parlance of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
In a report to DOLE-7 Regional Director Elias A. Cayanong, DOLE-Siquijor Field Office (SFO) Officer-in-Charge Nole R. Torres cited that among the 306 registered applicants, thirty-five (35) of them were luckily hired on the spot (HOTS).
Said job fair, according to Torres, posted a total of 169 job vacancies offered by participating employers.
Local positions posted included customer service representatives; loan assistants; administrative assistants; cashiers; and electronic assemblers. The positions needed abroad, on the other hand, were welders; nurses; assistant teachers; engineers; and bartenders.
“We are so happy that we were able to provide opportunities to land on a job to the constituents of Siquijor particularly to the ones residing in Larena and its neighboring towns. Our sincere gratitude also goes out to the local government unit of Larena for the support as well as to the management and staff of the Siquijor State College for responsibly holding the job fair,” he added.
According to DOLE-7 Assistant Regional Director Cyril L. Ticao, the facilitation of job matching and placement of jobseekers is an advocacy not solely done by the Department since the Public Employment Service Offices (PESOs) are there to likewise promote and actively participate in the implementation of the program.
“We want to thank the SSC PESO for actively doing its share by way of holding job fairs in their area on a regular basis. The bigger access we provide to jobseekers in landing on a job, the bigger chances they will have at employability and productivity,” he said.
The HOTS landed on the following positions, namely: loan assistants; customer service representatives and assistants; cashiers; marketing assistants; finance assistants; and electronic assembler trainees.
Mr. John Anthony Jimenez, SSC’s Job Placement Officer and Public Employment Service Office (PESO) manager, revealed that the conduct of said job fair was a success and he also credited it to the unrelenting support extended to their office by the DOLE-Siquijor.
Regional Director Cayanong lauded all stakeholders involved in the successful conduct of said job fair, which was a part of the SSC’s 32nd Charter Day Anniversary Celebration and one which tallied the highest number of HOTS produced by far at SSC job fair.
“We, at the Department, will continue to establish active partnership among the PESOs in the Region. We know very well that the PESOs also advocate many of our programs and we believe that we should be working side by side with them as we continue to exert efforts to make it easy and fast for jobseekers find jobs that fit their qualifications, interests, and career inclinations,” the DOLE-7 Head finally quipped.
